About This Program
The Disability Tax Credit is a non-refundable tax credit that helps people with disabilities or their supporting family members reduce the income tax they may have to pay. When combined with other benefits, it can result in significant tax savings — and can be claimed retroactively for up to 10 years.
Eligibility Requirements
- 1Must have a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions
- 2Impairment must be expected to last at least 12 consecutive months
- 3Must be markedly restricted in at least one basic activity of daily living
- 4Must have a qualified medical practitioner certify the disability
How to Apply
- 1Have a medical practitioner complete Form T2201
- 2Submit Form T2201 to the CRA for approval
- 3Once approved, claim the credit on your tax return
- 4Request adjustments for prior years (up to 10 years back)
