About This Program
The National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) provides financial support to qualified small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada to help them undertake technology innovation. It is one of the most impactful programs for tech startups and SMEs.
Eligibility Requirements
- 1Canadian incorporated SME (≤500 employees)
- 2For-profit company with capacity to innovate
- 3Project must involve technology innovation
- 4Must demonstrate potential for commercialization

- 1Contact your local NRC-IRAP Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA)
- 2Discuss your innovation project and get a preliminary assessment
- 3Submit a formal application if advised to proceed
